Part of the Basin and Range Provence, the land has been stretched and wrinkled into a series of deep valleys and high mountain ranges. It is the hottest place on earth, and yet there is always a place of respite at higher elevations. This is a hard landscape… brutal heat and sun, cold winters, barren landscapes of sand dunes and salt flats, the wind, and the occasional flood. Nothing is easy here except for its sublime beauty.
